PLUNK is the consanguinity of music and friendship between Steve Osburn and Tim Twiss. Both come from Adrian Michigan and have been friends since high school. Steve introduced Tim to the world of Classical Guitar, and since then have had varied journeys in the world of music. Both ended up as teachers and music store owners for the greater part of the last 35 years in Milford and Ann Arbor respectively. Now, they have come together for this eclectic presentation of the guitar and banjo.

    The music is solidly based in the mid-19th Century, when a young America was struggling for an identity in the shadow of its European Big Brother. The Minstrel show, offensive as it was, is the source of all we experience today in popular music. As it evolved away from the grotesque portrayal of African Americans, it borrowed forms found in dance and light Classical music. These transcripts lay under the cover of dust in the Library of Congress and various educational archives until a revival was introduced in the 1990s.

    The notes you hear are an exact representation of what the composers left us in the form of printed music. The interpretation is uniquely ours, and by no means is supposed to sound like you are in 1868. What you will find in our presentation is a respectful recreation of old music combined with our contemporary experience. We try to capture the zeitgeist of the time gone by, without rendering a lifeless performance based upon what is “correct’. It is our own…….so sit back and get “Plunked”
